Tourist Places in Nathdwara

Shri Nathdwara (a pathway to Lord Shri Krishna) literally means the gateway to the Lord ShriNathji. This great Vaishnavite shrine was built in the 17th century on spot exactly identified by the Lord himself. The legends have it that the idol of the Lord Krishna was being transferred to safer place from Vrindaban to protect it from the destructive wrath of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. When the idol reached this spot, the wheels of bullock cart it was traveling in, sank axle deep in mud and refused to move further, at all. Majestically placed on the serene banks of Banas River, Nathdwara in the Indian state of Rajasthan is a coveted centre of Krishna worship. It is a unique pilgrim center where one can see one among the prettiest manifestations of Lord Krishna. The place is as romantic as the term sounds.

Literally the term Nathdwara stands for the doorway to the lord. This pictorial countryside is speckled with an array of ancient temples whose stamped stockades reawaken the legendary tales of a compassionate Lord. 

Nathdwara is 48 km northeast away from the city Udaipur. It is located on the bank of 'Banas' river. Nathdwara stands for 'Gate of the Lord'. Nathdwara is one of the famous Hindu pilgrimage places in India, enthroning Lord Krishna as Govardhan Giridhari. Nathdwara has popular temple of Srinathji- a fresco of Krishna. This image was motivated to Mewar during the reign of Aurangzeb, for the reason of protections. The temple of Srinathji was built after the permission of Mewar's Rana.

Nathdwara covers an area of 75.50sq.km. The languages used by people are Hindi, English and Rajasthani.If you are making your plan towards this destination of Nathdwara, then visit during the most comfortable period is between September to February.

The accompanying priest realized that this was Lord's chosen spot and the Lord did not want to travel any further. Accordingly a Temple was built here. This is a temple and place of pilgrimage amongst its believers. Nice promenade through the lush environs of an abundant flora, which sets in between an unscathed hilly terrain, is just like a dream that lasts for a lifetime
